Millenia: Within these walls I’ve found, a way to keep me on the ground. Something to keep me down (down down down) But I can’t ignore the fear, that I don’t belong here. I don’t wanna be brought back down (down down) I wanna go back (take me back) Can we go back? I wanna return, (let’s return) just past Saturn I wanna go back (take me back) Can we go back to Millenia? 2x You don’t know what it’s like to have survived beyond the sky, to be the face of outer space, to lose more than I had to gain. I’ve travelled beyond the farthest star, seen better things, felt my true heart. I’ve found the place where I belong, now being here just feels wrong, so wrong, all along. So what if I leave it all behind. I’m used to finding you in my mind. Now I think it’s time To fall forever into the stars the only love that’s greater than ours, I will find on Mars. Within these walls I’ve found, a way to leave the ground, and I will never fall I won’t know where to go, but at least I know that I will never fall back down (down) So what if I leave it all behind. I’m used to finding you in my mind. Now I think it’s time To fall forever into the stars the only love that’s greater than ours, I will find on Mars. You don’t know what it’s like. Never had to think twice. Never known what it’s like to miss a home you’ve never known. Am I crazy or just better off alone? Is it nice to feel like the planet you call home feels right? I’ve travelled beyond the farthest star, lived my life without a mask. I’ve found the place where I believe that my life is worth living. Forgiving. Beginning. Now I believe. So what if I leave it all behind. I’m used to finding you in my mind. Now I think it’s time To fall forever into the stars the only love that’s greater than ours, I will find on Mars. I wanna go back (take me back) Can we go back? I wanna return, (let’s return) just past Saturn I wanna go back (take me back) Can we go back to Millenia? 2x

SINES Biography

Gravity the debut album by SINES (all caps please) (as a duo) is an album inspired by the true events of astronaut Jason Tavener who returned to earth in 2023 after being lost in space and assumed dead in 1978…

His shuttle was sucked into the outer reaches of a wormhole and Tavener’s life support systems kept him in a state of suspended animation for the duration of his 45 year voyage to the cosmos. Due to a recent solar flare, Tavener was released from his stasis and returned to earth. He returns to a world he both recognizes and doesn’t…

After reading the story in The Sun, electropop duo SINES were moved to write an album loosely based on Tavener’s incredible experience.

Their blend of Kraftwerkian synthesizers and percussive melodrama paired with vocalist Kitty Richardson’s angelic vocals and evocative lyricism make for a potent auditory journey. The album begins with a twinkling piano far in the distance…

Swirling arpeggios and machine gun drum machine fills give this disco fueled space opera a flair for the grandiose. The album is quite cinematic from the immense vocal choirs to the cavernous reverbs that envelop the listener.

For those technically minded, some of the synthesizers used making the album were: ARP Odyssey, Korg MS-20, MiniKorg 700, Roland Jupiter 4, Roland RS-09, Solina String Ensemble, Sequential Circuits Pro One, Minimoog and Yamaha CS-15.
Producer Jason Wann says “I wanted to use a lot of instruments from the time Mr. Tavener was lost. 1978 specifically. I think that was a really interesting time in electronic music and a lot of records that came out at that time and (shortly after) had a massive influence on me.”

Richardson’s wry observations, criticisms of humanity and messages of longing married to Wann’s synthesizer orchestra is a potent combination indeed. Layers upon layers of Kitty’s vocals sinuously snake around big drums and bouncy driving basslines. Hooks abound! The songs are insanely catchy and often deeply emotional; and nearly all, are very danceable. Kitty’s crisp alto soars over Jason’s modulated filter throb. They have an immediately identifiable sound that is both retro and futurist. Organic and synthetic. Emotional and distant. Not only sonically are they an odd couple. Man vs machine, male vs female, etc. but In the time honored tradition of Sparks, Pet Shop Boys and Erasure, neither Kitty or Jason talk a lot and prefer to let the songs do the talking. However, we were able to get a few quotes from the enigmatic synth poppers. Here’s what they had to say…
